MATT, GLOSS, SOFT TOUCH LAMINATION
Lamination finishes provide many advantages to the user, such as being tear-resistant, more durable, and stain-resistant. Lamination is a plastic film which is applied to printed sheets to one or both sides, offering enhancement and protection to printed materials. Matt lamination gives an elegant effect that offers great quality for products where image and first impressions mean everything, which is why it is a common choice for many. With gloss lamination the shine finish gives the artwork a much more striking look, the light reflects off the laminate, and gives colors, in particular blacks, a richer depth. The texture of soft-touch laminate is difficult to describe in written context – many users describe it as feeling like velvet or smooth suede material. However you were to describe this, it is a truly unique finish with its matt appearance and luxurious feel.
HOT FOIL STAMPING
In principle, hot foil stamping is the process of using heat and pressure to apply metallic foil or holograms to materials such as light papers, carton board, laminated board, plastics, and corrugated board.
The process is used on a wide range of products to create decorative finishes and anti-counterfeiting measures. In the packaging industry, the applications include food, pharma, tobacco, and luxury goods packaging, as well as labels for products such as wine and spirits. Beyond packaging, hot foil stamping is extensively used on banknotes, greetings cards, and throughout the commercial print.
EMBOSS / DEBOSS
To emboss, a commercial printing company uses two main things: a die, which is a personalized metal plate that’s cut into the image you want to emboss, and stock (paper). The die presses into the stock like a stamp and slightly raise images off the paper of your print piece. The die can be single-level or multi-level, where a single-level raises your image to one consistent height or depth, and a multi-level creates a more complex emboss or deboss. Think of debossing as the opposite of embossing. Debossing is when an image (logo, text, etc.) is imprinted into your print piece, creating a depressed effect. Just like embossing, you can choose to leave the debossed area untouched or fill it in with ink or foil stamping.
Spot UV refers to the application of this UV Coating to a specific area (or areas) of a printed piece rather than coating the entire surface. Used primarily as a design technique, Spot UV is a creative way to add depth and contrast through varying levels of sheen and texture.
